The King’s School Rugby tour to Ireland & the UK

 In Schools

At Venatour, one of our true sporting passions is rugby. With our upcoming Lions tour in 2021 and our Six Nations 2020 weekends, we love touring the globe to watch the sport. Therefore we have been delighted to operate The King’s School’s rugby tour which has just finished the Ireland leg of the trip.

Travelling from Parramatta in Sydney, Australia, the male side touched down in Dublin last week before their private transfer to the Grand Canal Hotel, located in a great dockside location in Dublin.

After an overnight stop in the Irish capital, the team ventured north of the border to The Royal Belfast Academical Institution, where the team would meet fellow students during their two night billeted stay.

The following day was their first taste of northern hemisphere rugby, with a fixture against the old boys’ rugby club  – The Old Instonians.

After a comprehensive victory over the hosts, the team enjoyed a meal and exchange of memorabilia with their counterparts.

The next day, the team travelled back down to Dublin’s Blackrock College to train at the same club that Ireland legend Brian O’Driscoll learnt his trade. The team enjoyed a two-hour experience at the famous institution before staying overnight with host families from the local area.

After a morning of sightseeing in Dublin, the tourists were ready for their second game of the tour, with a closely fought encounter with Blackrock.

The next day on the school rugby tour saw the team take a ferry across the Irish sea to the Welsh seaside town of Fishguard. This leg of the journey involved another night getting to know their fellow players with an overnight stay at very welcoming opposition host families.

Today the team have a day at leisure in Fishguard and the Pembroke peninsula, before they face off against their hosts Fishguard RFC before enjoying post-match hospitality at the club this evening

The rest of the tour will consist of visits to several more historic UK destinations, including St. Davids; Cardiff, where the team will be watching Cardiff Blues vs Pau; Bath for a tour of the Roman Baths; Warwick, for a fixture against the prestigious Warwick School; and finally London, for a two-day tour of England’s capital.

From all at Venatour, we hope The King’s School have a wonderful rest of their school rugby tour and wish them good luck in their upcoming fixtures.
