Stockport Grammar School Preseason Rugby Tour | Venatour Schools
Just over 50 rugby players from Stockport Grammar School travelled to the Venatour Activity Centre for their pre-season, team bonding trip.
The group, led by Hugo Corbett, was comprised of three male teams: u15s, u16s and u17s. Upon arrival, the squad were split into groups of mixed ages which certainly helped to quickly forge friendships and bond the team from the start.
Our beautiful Pembroke centre is located right on the coast, boasting some of the most stunning scenery in Britain.
On the first night, the “townies” of Stockport were walked to the water’s edge to watch a group of seals.
The real activity took place over the next four days when the lads from Stockport trained in the mornings at St David’s RFC before embarking on a series of exhilarating and adrenaline-fuelled activities. These included: coasteering near where the Red Bull World Cliff Diving Series has taken place; sea-kayaking and surfing in the warm, crystal clear waters; and finally the pièce de résistance – the mud-run. This involved climbing, running, wading and sliding and was roundly lauded as “great fun” even if most approached it initially with trepidation.
In the evenings, Stockport took advantage of our large meeting room with projector to consolidate what they had achieved on individual days.
The final morning comprised of two conditioned games against the local St David’s RFC before heading back to Stockport after a post-match function with the opposition.
Rugby Master Hugo Corbett said, “it was fantastic. Great feedback from the boys who loved it.”
Venatour were glad that Stockport were able to have so much fun in West Wales.
