Somerville House Netball Tour | Venatour Schools
At the start of summer, Venatour welcomed Somerville House to England for their netball tour. Based in Brisbane, the seventeen-strong all-female squad touched down at Heathrow with much excitement for their bespoke tour.
From the Tower of London and a river cruise to afternoon tea at the Ritz and West End shows, the team enjoyed their time in the capital before the sport began.
The first fixture was a doubleheader against Bromley High, with Somerville 1st Team and u15s both competing. In two games that were played in great spirit, the Australian side took both wins as they continued their tour of the country.
Following a ride on the London Eye and an exploration of the world of Harry Potter at the Warner Brothers Studios, the team left London to take on their next opponents.
In order to prepare effectively for challenging weekend fixtures, Somerville were given the opportunity to train at Oxford University’s renowned Iffley Road Sports Complex.
After their next round of games, the squad headed north via the historical sites of Warwick Castle and Bolton Abbey, before facing Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley, Leeds.
As the matches finished, Somerville’s tour of the north continued as they explored the ancient Roman town of York, including a visit to the Jorvik Viking centre.
The team were also given the fantastic opportunity to watch their idols in the Netball World Cup 2019 in Liverpool. The group watched eight fixtures, including three emphatic Australian victories.
After more touring Anfield football stadium and the Beatles experience in Liverpool, Somerville’s two-week tour was over.
Here at Venatour we would like to extend our thanks to the team and the staff. We hope that the memories created on tour will be unforgettable!
