Sandbach School u18 Hockey Tour to Holland | Venatour Schools
Sandbach School have been touring with Venatour for a number of years, playing various sports all around the world.
Therefore, we were delighted to operate and organise their Hockey tour at the beginning of the month.
After touching down in Amsterdam, the school were privately transferred to Amsterdam Hockey & Bandy Club where the team enjoyed lunch in the clubhouse, before undergoing bespoke training sessions for the outfield players and goalkeepers with elite Dutch coaches.
Great first day. All of the boys loved the professional session and spent some time this evening reflecting on the session too. Big thank you to @SportWays & Rick Botman for stretching and challenging the lads. #UpTheBach #WolfPackOnTour 🏑 🐺 pic.twitter.com/oM4W8ScrMX

After their training session, the Wolfpack made their way to Soest, their base for the tour. The group enjoyed some much-needed downtime and tour bonding at their accommodation before dinner was provided for them.
The first morning in Holland gave an opportunity for another pro-coaching session, this time with Dutch coach Maarten Nooitgedacht at the excellent facilities of Mixed Hockey Club Soest.
During the afternoon, the team put their training into action with a self-led session to prepare for their first fixture of the tour. In the evening, Sandbach were joined by their rivals MHC Leusden for a shared dinner and friendly “Pub Quiz”.
However, the festivities had to end when they picked up their hockey sticks for the match, which was a great contest between both sides, before a post-match exchange of memorabilia.
The following day saw the spectacle of another sport, the Rugby World Cup. The team cheered on their England heroes who sadly were beaten by a stronger South Africa team in the final.
In the afternoon, the team visited the student town of Utrecht. This hidden gem of a city combines culture with shopping and food destinations galore and the team soon forgot about the England loss.

With their batteries recharged, the next morning was the second tour fixture – this time against Hockey Club Eemvallei. The professional training was shown in full effect as the Wolfpack stormed to a 7-2 victory over their Dutch counterparts.
A 7-2 victory in our 2nd game on tour vs @HCEemvallei again excellent hosting and some fantastic home made Dutch food for lunch! Now onto @AHBCAmsterdam for the game this afternoon pic.twitter.com/CRou84xEvu

In the afternoon, the team attended the Amsterdam v Bloemendaal fixture in the Hoofdklasse – the Dutch hockey lead. Sandbach’s first taste of live Dutch hockey saw the team from the capital defeated by league leaders Bloemendaal 2-1.
Sandbach’s final day of the tour saw the team engage in more pro-coaching sessions. In the morning they returned to Soest’s Maaretn Nooitgedacht before travelling to Phoenix Hockey Club in Zeist for their session with Director of Coaching Arne Mook.
Once again, big thank you to @VenatourTravel for a tremendous trip! The boys have finished their training camp with an excellently led session from the Director of Coaching @phnxh – the lads thoroughly enjoyed the all out attacking session. #UpTheBach #WolfPackOnTour 🏑 🐺 pic.twitter.com/8hmVpdlgI2
