Rokeby School Football Tour to Holland | Venatour Schools
Despite specialising predominantly in rugby and cricket tours, Venatour Schools creates bespoke tours for all sports and even other extra-curricular activities such as music and drama.
Therefore, we were delighted to once again take Rokeby School on their annual football tour to The Netherlands.
The squad were based in Noordwijk, a coastal town adjacent to Amsterdam which is famous for its long sandy beaches and youth tournaments, for five days of football fun.
On the first morning, the team set off to the Johann Cruyff ArenA, home of Ajax Football Club. The group were able to walk in the footsteps of football icons Marco van Basten, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the aforementioned Cruyff as they experienced a two-hour coaching session led by professional coaches at Ajax’s training ground, De Toekomst.
The squad then had the chance to use their improved skills to face their first opposition, Bleiswijk Soccer Boys, with each age group playing against their Dutch counterparts.
After a well earned rest back at the hostel, Venatour arranged scooters for the team to explore Nordwijk, before the squad trained together.
Later in the day, a ten-pin bowling session was enjoyed by all before the second round of fixtures against Kethel Spaland in Schiedam.
The following morning, the team enjoyed another professional coaching experience before being given a tour of the Johann Cruyff ArenA.
Inspired by Dutch football legends, the team travelled to the trendy city of Utrecht to play their final round of fixtures against DVSU.
Although the playing side of the tour was over, the team had plenty of culture left to explore. After a canal cruise of Amsterdam, the squad explored central Amsterdam before transfering to The Hague to watch Ado Den Haag vs VVV in The Eredivisie, Holland’s top football division.
After a spectacular end to a fantastic football tour, we would like to extend our thanks to Rokeby School and wish them the best of luck in their upcoming football season having learnt from the greats in Holland.
