Laytown on the beach

The Laytown Races occupy a unique position in the Irish racing calendar, as Ireland’s only horse racing event run on a beach under the Rules of Racing.

The Flat racing event takes place once a year, every September, on the County Meath strand, on a straight, almost level course. Races are confined to six and seven furlong distances.

People travel from far and wide to witness the spectacle of horse racing on the beach in Ireland.

The course is noted for its variety of interlaced tracks and a famous hill that provides a real challenge to the competing thoroughbreds.

The Irish Champions weekend

Sixteen races across two days at two different race courses, watching the very best Irish talent alongside the top British yards, what more could you want?

The Irish Champions Weekend is a two-day meeting featuring racing of the highest order at two of Ireland’s premier tracks. Leopardstown stages Saturday’s card before the Curragh takes over for Sunday’s action.

Day 1 – The Two Day Irish Champions Weekend starts at Leopardstown with a fabulous 8 Race Card featuring 5 Group 1 Races including the Royal Bahrain Champion Stakes and the Coolmore America ‘Justify’ Matrons Stakes, ranked the best fillies and mares race in the world. As well as the top class racing, it is accompanied by superb food, live entertainment, family fun and fashion.

Day 2 – The second day is held at the home of all 5 Irish Classic Races, The Curragh has been completely redeveloped and now rivals the best sporting destinations in the world. The 8 Race Card is highlighted by the last classic of the season, The Irish St Leger along with 3 other Group 1 Races. Before the racing starts, racegoers get a chance to see some of their former favourites parading in the parade ring.
