Alive with opportunity!
The UK offers a great combination of history and culture along with a wide variety of sport at all sorts of different levels.
Taking a tour to the Rugby Museum at Rugby School or a visit to the Long Room at Lords is a sight to behold – many teachers and pupils realising a lifetime ambition! Apart from these sporting icons, there are the more traditional tourist sights such as Big Ben, the Tower of London, Giant’s Causeway, Edinburgh Castle, the Roman Baths at Bath, Stonehenge or punting on the River Cam in Cambridge – that ensure the UK is a regular on the international tourists map!
Combined trips to the Republic of Ireland can also offer some great sporting opposition, not to mention a very warm welcome. Other additions can include Belgium, Holland or France – all easily accessible from London by train or ferry links. Billeting in the UK and Ireland is a great way of helping to reduce the tour price as well as offering great chance to spend time with local families.
SPORTS & SEASONS
Rugby
Sep-Apr
Plenty of variety and standards of all levels and can be combined with a training camp at a Premiership club such as Saracens, Harlequins or Leicester. Best to tour in September or November/December as most schools play in the first term leading up to Christmas.
Netball
Sep-Apr
Played indoors and out – plenty of scope for all standards and works really well combined with either hockey or rugby.
Hockey
Sep-Apr
An excellent variety of standards for both boys and girls with an abundance of astro turf. The main hockey term is January to March, although September to December works well too.
Football
Sep-May
Coaching sessions, competitive friendly matches and, of course, trips behind the scenes at some of the most famous clubs in the world. Tottenham Hotspur offer a particularly good day of training – but plenty of others are available with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool or Man City.
Cricket
Apr-Jul
When it comes to the mecca of cricket – it is every students dream to see Lords. A training session with hawk-eye can be arranged, along with matches across the length and breadth of the country. Billeting makes this type of tour very special with the long summer evenings available to play cricket and share a cucumber sandwich post match!
CULTURE
The United Kingdom has cultural links with a large proportion of the globe. Whilst in the UK, schools can incorporate all kinds of educational visits and perhaps link up with sister schools where appropriate.
Activities
The beauty of a tour to the UK is that with it being so small, you really can pack a huge amount of sightseeing in between the fixtures. The highlights for most tours include, learning about Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge, the Roman Baths at Bath, Edinburgh Castle, university towns of Cambridge and Oxford and the Yorvik Viking Centre. Other more modern attractions include Cadbury World, the making of Harry Potter at Warner Bros Studios and a trip on the London Eye!
Accommodation
A wide array of hostels cover the country and they offer great value for large groups and in London with our buying power we can secure excellent hotels for very good rates. We firmly believe that tours should stay as close to the centre as possible, after all it might be a while before you return, so why spend an hour each day getting into and out of town.
