A magnificent mix of cultures…
A great destination to use as a stopover on the way to Australia or New Zealand, or alternatively a good base for a Triangular Asian tour linking it with Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Perfect for combination tours as you can play rugby, hockey and netball during the same season. Start in Kuala Lumpur and head north to Penang for some leisure or the rain forest in the centre – then head down to Melacca and onto Singapore. There is still something special about crossing a border by road especially as no one seems to care in Europe anymore!
SPORTS & SEASONS
Mainly played around Kuala Lumpur at some of the expat clubs – depending on your strength there is a chance of playing representative sides.
Mostly played outdoors and the local girls love to play overseas tourists.
Very popular and equally good. You can expect to play schools and clubs whilst on tour and some games are likely to be played at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex which were used for the Commonwealth Games.
A real mix of cultures come together to create the Malaysian population and the one constant is the broad smile that welcomes you at most sporting venues. The food is a real mix as well, and the taste buds will explode as you sample Indian, Chinese, Thai and Malay cooking – often cooked with regional twists.
The Island of Penang is a great relaxing way to end your or city tours of Melacca and Kuala Lumpur. The walk up to Batu Caves will get you acclimatised, and a trip to the rain forest will cool you down as you head up to the Genting Highlands.
Most people feel spoilt in Malaysia as the hotels are such a great standard and offer very good value for money – but be prepared for a few strange sights at the breakfast buffet!
