Gareth “Cooch” Chilcott is Bath Rugby’s greatest ever prop

 In British & Irish Lions

Following a recent poll conducted by Somerset Live, Venatour’s own Gareth “Cooch” Chilcott was chosen by Bath Rugby supporters in their ultimate XV since 1865.

Despite facing stiff competition from England tighthead David Flatman, fan-favourite Cooch won by a landslide 64.2%.

When asked for a comment, Cooch replied, “see, everybody loves a villain!”

In his 16-year career, Cooch made 373 appearances for Bath, scoring 17 tries and winning countless scrums in the process.

The Bristolian also won 14 England caps and was a member of the legendary British and Irish Lions “brotherhood” of 1989, the only Lions side to ever win a series after losing the first Test.

His reputation in the West Country certainly remains, with his former teammate, England hooker Brian Moore, calling for him to become mayor of Bath in 2016.

The Bath favourite will be sharing his Lions experiences in 2021 when Venatour travel to watch the tour of South Africa in 2021.
