Colegio María Montessori School Football & Hockey Tour of the UK 2022

 In Schools

Venatour not only design bespoke international tours for UK groups and schools, but we are globally renowned for our inbound sporting and cultural tours too.

Therefore we were delighted to welcome Colegio María Montessori School from Argentina for our first UK tour since the pandemic this Spring.

With an itinerary focused on football and hockey combined with an immersive cultural experience of Britain, the mixed Argentinian school touched down in Edinburgh for a truly unforgettable two weeks.

Edinburgh Castle is a must-see for any trip to the Scottish capital.

After being welcomed by Venatour staff in Scotland, we escorted the group to their first hostel with plenty of time to take in Edinburgh’s stunning surroundings.

The following morning saw the fixtures kick-off. The boys’ football team headed to Spartans Youth FC, whilst the girls’ hockey squad faced the renowned Edinburgh Hockey Club. Both matches were conducted in wonderful touring spirit which was celebrated with a post-match exchange after the games.

Spartans FC welcome our tourists in the footballing spirit.

With the Scottish sporting action under their belts, now it was time for Montessori to explore the culture of the capital. A day tour of the city comprised of a Spanish audio-guided tour of the Royal Mile which led them to Portcullis Gate which marks the perimeter of the iconic Edinburgh Castle. Venatour arranged tickets for a tour of the castle before our guide Auxiliadora led the group on a private two-and-a-half-hour walking tour of the city.

The next stop on the itinerary was a journey south of the border to York. To break up the journey, the group stopped off at the world-famous Alnwick Castle – the inspiration and filming location of Harry Potter’s school Hogwarts!

York is a similarly striking city. Narrow cobbled alleys and charming ancient architecture interweave to make it one of the UK’s most picturesque landscapes. After another walking tour and a visit to the impressive York Minster, Montessori took on Ampleforth College in a football and hockey double-header. Two close-fought matches later, the York school hosted their visitors for dinner to celebrate the occasion.

York is a breathtaking historical city.

The medieval experience continued on the group’s next stop – the city of Lincoln, known for its Cathedral and Castle – en route to Cambridge for a two-night stay.

The third fixture of the tour saw Montessori face King’s Ely school in a round of football and hockey games before enjoying lunch with the hosts. That afternoon, the team enjoyed the traditional pastime of punting on the River Cam before a walking tour of this famous university city.

The following morning, our tourists boarded the coach to the South West and a visit to the city of Bath, via Cambridge’s great rival Oxford. No tour of Bath would be complete without a tour of the Roman baths, and our customary walking tour introduced the group to this historic town.

Finally, the last stop on Montessori’s memorable tour was a trip to London. Although the fixtures were over, six fun-filled days were enjoyed in the capital, with the group visiting Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. Venatour also arranged a panoramic tour of London, a Thames River cruise, and tickets to see the new and award-winning Back to the Future show on the West End. A fitting end to an unforgettable trip!

We very much enjoyed looking after Colegio María Montessori School and would like to thank them for travelling with Venatour. We hope to see you on tour again soon!
